- Two-Level Signalized Intersection is
Structure of the intersection has been separated into two levels for
2-direction road on the top and another 2-direction road on the bottom
for processing traffic signals.
Both the top and bottom roads have traffic signals, and each signal
system is 2-phase. |
- Signal timing
Traffic signals operate in both the top and bottom roads, and they
process signals independently. As such, timing of the signals is more
than twice as long and waiting time for green light is shortened to
1/3 the conventional intersection. |
- More effective with ITS (Intelligent Transport System)
Application of ITS creates much more synergy than with the conventional
intersection. |

- Two-Level Round About
The conventional roundabout has been split into top and bottom roundabouts
to allow 2 in coming traffic for each roundabout. Traffic flow is
eased by directing traffic from 4 different directions to 2 directions
per each roundabout. |
- Flow of traffic is the same with conventional roundabout
Flow of traffic is familiar to drivers, as the principle of traffic
flow is the same as the conventional roundabout. Two-Level Round About
can be applied to 5-way or more complex intersection. |

- Structure
This is a two-level non-stop intersection allows straight through,
left and right turns, and there are concave connections between left-right
turn road and straight through roads. |
- Left turns and right turns
Vehicles make left turns from the left lane (1st lane), and vehicles
make right turns from the right lane to merge with the main road. |
- Required area is similar to the conventional intersection.
The required area is similar to the conventional intersection, as
the connections between left-right turn road and straight through
roads are concave. |
- Ideal for urban intersection
Traffic flow principle is the same for the vehicles coming from all
4 directions, and left turns are made from the left, and right turns
are made from the right. It is ideal for congested roads in urban
areas. |

- Overview
It is a non-stop two-level interchange that allows straight through
traffic, left and right turns.
Traffic flow principle is the same for all 4 directions, and left
and right turns are made from the right lane of the main road. It
is ideal for urban streets and urban highways where handling left
turns from the left lane is not desirable. |
- Left and right turn lanes
The required area is similar to the conventional intersection, as
the left and right turn lanes connect with the main road in a concave
shape. |
- Traffic flow
Off ramps are to the right side of the main road and splits again
to left and right to merge with the main road at left (for vehicles
making left turn) or right (for vehicles making right turn).
Vehicles making left and right turns use the off ramp on the right
and merge with the traffic of the main roads on the left or right. |
- Both left and right turns use the off ramp on the right, which
is the convention of Two-Level Non-Stop Interchange. |
